Difference between going to and will

Going to" se usa para hablar de planes para el futuro o para hablar de intenciones.
Por ejemplo: I am going to visit that museum. / Yo voy a visitar ese museo. He is going to make pasta for dinner. / Él va a hacer pasta para cenar.
Las negaciones se forman con " not going to + infinitivo".
Por ejemplo: I am NOT going to visit that museum. / Yo no voy a visitar ese museo. He is NOT going to make pasta for dinner. / Él no va a hacer pasta para cenar.
"Will" se usa para hablar de decisiones espontáneas, en condicionales, y en previsiones (cosas que pueden o no pasar).
Por ejemplo: If i go to the supermarket, i will buy some bread. / Si voy al supermercado, compraré algo de pan. (A LO MEJOR voy al supermercado)
The phone’s ringing. I’ll get it! / El teléfono suena. ¡Voy a cogerlo! (No tenía planeado cogerlo, lo decido AHORA)
Who do you think will win the match? / ¿Quién crees que ganará el partido?
Las negaciones se forman con "won't".
Por ejemplo: If it rains, I won't go out. / Si llueve, no voy a salir.

Tips para principiantes:
El uso de estos dos es complicado al principio porque son intercambiables la mayoria de veces, y si te equivocas y usas uno sobre el otro, de todas formas la persona te va a entender.
'Going to' esta conectado al presente. Quiere decir que esta planeado, o que hay evidencia que va a ocurrir.
Si, esta bien decir que 'will' se usa para predecir el futuro o cuando hay una intencion de hacer algo pero no se ha decidido. Sin embargo esta no es una norma que siempre va aplicar. Por ejemplo, uno perfectamente puede usar 'going to' o 'will' cuando pide comida en un restaurante.
'Will' tambien se usa cuando pides un favor, o cuando ofreces ayuda. (I will help you translate / Will you help me with the groceries?
'Will' es mucho mas comun que 'going to'. Asi que principiantes de el ingles pueden usar 'will' mientras se sumergen mas en la gramatica del ingles y ya puedan naturalmente distinguir entre los numerosos usos y entre 'going to' o will'. Las diferencias y usos entre estos dos no son tan blanco y negro como uno cree.
Asi que al principio si dudas, usa 'will' y te entenderan. No te estoy diciendo que no uses going to, usalo y si te equivocas, pues aprendes de el error.

Past continuous

The past continuous tense, also known as the past progressive tense, refers to a continuing action or state that was happening at some point in the past. The past continuous tense is formed by combining the past tense of to be (i.e., was/were) with the verb’s present participle (-ing word). There are many situations in which this  verb tense  might be used in a sentence. For example, it is often used to describe conditions that existed in the past. Will

·   Se utiliza para hablar de  predicciones de futuro  basado en cosas que no son tan evidentes (I.e.  I think the weather will be great this summer ). ·   También utilizamos esta estructura para hacer  decisiones espontáneas  (I.e.  I'm tired. I'll go to bed ). ·   Cuando hacemos  promesas  (I.e.  I promise I will go to the party ). ·   Cuando  ofrecemos  algo (I.e.  I'll help you with your homework ).
